Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur starrer Son Of Sardaar 2 released in theatres on August 1, 2025. The movie has had a stable run during its first weekend and the earnings were as follows:
Opening Day (Friday): Rs 7.25 crore

Day 3 (Sunday): Rs 9.25 crore
This took the weekend earnings to Rs 24.75 crore. As of August 4, 2025, the film had collected Rs 25.26 crore in India. By comparison, Dhadak 2 opened to a low 11.4 crore and Saiyaara was still raking in close to 300 crore in 17 days .
Son Of Sardaar 2 has been able to cope with the competition and it is a sign of positive word-of-mouth and audience appeal.
Comparison with Competitors
In its opening weekend, Son Of Sardaar 2 earned an approximate of 24.75 crore in its first 3 days (7.25 crore on Friday, 8.25 crore Saturday, 9.25 crore Sunday) with very good evening shows and 34.9 % Hindi occupancy on Sunday.
However, Dhadak 2, which featured Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, collected approximately 11.5 crore within the opening weekend (3.5 crore, 3.75 crore, 4.25 crore on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday respectively). Meanwhile, Saiyaara, which is on its 17th day, has raked in almost 300 crore across India as it stands at 299.75 crore by Sunday, despite the competition of both new releases.
Son Of Sardaar 2 showed that it was the better of the two new releases in August, as it more than doubled the opening of Dhadak 2 and held its own against the continued success of Saiyaara.
Son Of Sardaar 2 Audience Reception
Son Of Sardaar 2 had a poor audience reach in its first weekend:
Day 1 (Friday): Hindi-2D occupancy was generally low at 22.6% with the average occupancy in the morning shows being about 10% and increasing to 20-40% in the evening shows indicating a weak opening even with a full release.
Day 2 (Saturday): Ticket sales were a little better, but the highest occupancy in the night showed 44.7% and the average per-show attendance was around the 28-30 percent mark.
Day 3 (Sunday): The movie experienced a 12.12 percent growth in the audience over Saturday and the overall occupancy during the weekend was 34.9 percent. The afternoon and evening shows and the night shows showed good increases of 40%, 52%, 36% respectively.
Day 4 (Monday): This is the first day of the weekday slump, as the overall occupancy plummeted to a mere 6.21 percent, indicating that the interest generated over the weekend was being lost early.
Son Of Sardaar 2 had a shaky beginning but gained weekend recovery due to the positive word-of-mouth and average evening shows. Nevertheless, the steep Monday fall indicates a lack of sustainability in footfalls.

Son Of Sardaar 2 Critical Reception
The movie received mixed criticisms LiveMint referred to Son of Sardaar 2 as a half baked comedy with an all over the place screenplay.
The Times of India rated it 3/5 and though it found that the ensemble cast and comic moments of Ajay Devgn provided some laughs, the film was mostly an overstuffed version of the original and a caricature of it.
Social media and fan reviews took it easier. Compliments came in thick and fast about its desi loud humour and Ajay’s comic timing and called it a masala in full swing and a worth the money entertainer.
To the admirers of the first part, the second one brought back the nostalgic appeal and vigour even the critics of the footage praised Ravi Kishan and Deepak Dobriyal in giving the bad script a good lift.
Final Word
Son Of Sardaar 2 Box Office Collection has performed decently well with an overall collection of Rs 25 crore plus in the first few days. Though it is not reaching the heights of the runaway success that Saiyaara was, it has outdone Dhadak 2 and has taken a decent position in the box office line-up. With a positive word of mouth and weekend momentum, the film still has potential to grow in the coming weeks, especially among those who are fans of the franchise and among the family audiences.
