Have you ever wondered how the book series might have been different if author J.K. Rowling had thought differently when she was writing? It’s fascinating to realize that the stories we know and enjoy today weren’t created in an idealized way from the start. Instead, those early, less-than-ideal versions helped shape the stories into the wonderful forms they are today.
Rowling herself called the abandoned stories “ghost stories.” These ideas include; the Potters’ house on a stormy island, Voldemort being a dwarf, Hermione Granger having a sister – all of which demonstrate how much a story can change in the writing process.
As filming for the new Harry Potter series begins, director Mark and showrunner Francesca have mentioned how much they enjoy the stories, as well as their vision for the series. They want to explore the complexities of the wizarding world further, and the next books will allow the language of magic to evolve.
More than 30,000 people tried their luck in open auditions for the roles of Harry, Ron and Hermione earlier this year. Mark said that while the casting of the golden trio is still unknown, the team has watched every audition and found a few potential actors.

The new series will be starting from scratch, exploring the world of the books in a new light, and featuring a new cast for everyone to meet. Some characters which were never depicted in the films like the difficult, troublesome spirit Peeves will be included in the show.
Returning locations include the Great Hall, but there will be additions to other aspects of Hogwarts, like the staff room, and the transition of the school’s appearance throughout the series. The aim is to study the architectural motifs of the ancient castle and how they would develop, with the addition of Georgian architecture and efforts at naturalism.
Mark and Francesca prefer to remain as close to canon as possible in terms of the ages of some characters; Snape was 31 years old in 1991, the year in which the events of Philosopher’s Stone occurred.
The show is being run by JK Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV plus David Heyman of Heyday Films while Francesca Gardiner also takes the position of showrunner and executive producer together with director Mark Mylod.
The team expects that these sneak peeks into the new Harry Potter series will build up fans for their great return to the magical world.
