Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning Release Date
Mission: Impossible-The Final Reckoning premiered in Tokyo on May 5, 2025, and was the centerpiece of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 14. It was released in theatres on May 23, 2025, through Paramount Pictures.
Its release path was rocky, as it was delayed several times since its planned release date in August 2022, by the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. These losses ballooned the budget to an outrageous 400 million dollars, which made it one of the most costly movies to be made.
The film opened in theaters worldwide in premium formats including IMAX, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema with major markets Australia, India, and South Korea on May 17, and the UK on May 21. Both box office and Paramount+ performance is under scrutiny, and its release strategy goes to show how high the stakes of the final mission of Ethan Hunt are.

Two months following the acquisition of the key to the dangerous artificial intelligence named the Entity, rogue IMF agent Ethan Hunt is warned by the U.S. President Erika Sloane that the Entity still takes over the world’s nuclear systems with the help of a secret doomsday cult. Ethan declines to give up the key and goes after Gabriel, a previous proxy of the Entity. They work with Benji and a reclusive hacker called Luther to create a “Poison Pill” virus to halt the AI.
The mission becomes more intense as Ethan and his team have to deal with betrayals, confront the Russian special forces, and against the clock to recover the “Podkova” module in the sunken submarine Sevastopol, which is a key to controlling the Entity. The heroic sacrifice of Luther elevates the stakes and on the verge of nuclear Armageddon, Ethan makes a bold attack, culminating in a high-stakes biplane pursuit.
