Gadar 2 tries to recreate the patriotism and family love from the first movie but lacks a solid story. The original moved audiences with the loss of lives in the partition and cross-border love story. This sequel struggles to connect emotionally.

It’s been 22 years and Sakeena’s father is now gone. A new Pakistani general seeks revenge for past events and India’s involvement in Bangladesh. He captures and tortures Tara’s son when he crosses the border to find his father. This forces Tara to take action again to save his son.

The love story in Pakistan feels unnecessary and drags the overly long 2-hour 45-minute movie. One highlight is the music, especially the beautiful song “Udd jaa Kaale Kaava”. Sunny Deol is also sincere as the iconic Tara Singh. His concern for his son feels real. Fans will also enjoy seeing the iconic hand pump scene again.

Ameesha Patel doesn’t have much to do besides wait for the men. Utkarsh Sharma is pleasant as the son but lacks the screen presence needed. While not badly made, the characters lack depth to stir emotion or hold attention for long. Sunny Deol fans will enjoy his star power and iconic roar again.
