A much-awaited live-action version of How to Train Your Dragon showcased its first official trailer to the delight of fans from the animated film trilogy. The Super Bowl trailer introduces audiences to the film adaptation by showcasing a major dramatic scene where Stoick declares to Hiccup “It’s time, Hiccup.”
This live-action How to Train Your Dragon adaptation brings dream fulfillment for all who experienced the animated movies during their childhood. Cressida Cowell introduced the How to Train Your Dragon series through books in 2003 which later became animated movies in 2010 and received two sequels during 2014 and 2019. The franchise undergoes another reimagining approach by making the transition from animated to live-action format.
The live-action adaptation of the film received its first announcement during February 2023 yet faced production setbacks because of the SAG-AFTRA strikes. The official production period for the film spanned from January 15 to May 16 during 2024. Movie enthusiasts got their initial glimpse of the live-action adaptation on November 15, 2024 before the premiere of the trailer took place four days later. The official trailer marks the beginning of a mesmerizing adaptation which premieres before audiences.
The remake benefits from director Dean DeBlois who wrote and directed the original animated films as he leads the production of the live-action version. 15 years after the release of the first animated How to Train Your Dragon, the live-action version will be released on June 13, 2025.
Gerard Butler reappears in the film as Stoick the Vast to delight fans who have followed his work since the beginning. The presence of Gerard Butler returning to play Stoick the Vast adds genuine authenticity to the film adaptation. His previous work with the character and story is expected to strengthen both the emotional resonance and audience engagement in the film.
The characters Hiccup and Astrid will be played in leading roles by Mason Thames and Nico Parker.
